Church of St John the Evangelist, Barkerhouse Road, Great Marsden, Lancashire, England

In1846, the heirs to the Marsden Hall Estate bequeathed land and money for a church and churchyard to be built. Despite extension and renewal work in the late 1890's. It had to be demolished in 1995 due to dry rot. A new church was dedicated in 2000, but the churchyard was in extreme need of attention. The congregation merged with that of St Philip's Church. In 2005, the "Friends of St John's Church" was established - this group attacked the overgrowth and returned the churchyard to a state where it was accessible. The Pendle and Burnley branch of the "Lancashire Family History and Heraldry Society" catalogued the graves and produced a CD.
