
There is no known date for the building of this church, and it is not mentioned in the Domeday Book. A Benedictine Priory was founded in 1146 and the "Advowson of Slymbridge" granted at that time, thereby suggesting an earlier church.
All of the church visible now, with the exception of the spire, the clerestory and the roof was built during the Early English period and the Transition period from Early English to Decorated, probably from about 1150. It is a Grade 1 listed building.
