Education*bt 1911 - 1915 William McCance studied at Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow, Scotland, where he studied drawing and painting.3 
Military*1916  He received his call-up papers for military service, but refused as a Conscientious Objector.3 
Criminal*1916 In 1916, William McCance appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court and was sentenced to 112 days imprisonment with hard labour at Wormwood Scrubs prison in London.3 
Military  On completion of his sentence, he was called-up a second time, and again refused.3 
Criminal He was was sent to a labour camp for Conscientious Objectors in Knutsford.3 
Marriage*1918 He married Agnes Millar Parker, daughter of William McCall Parker and Agnes Harriet Mitchell, at Bucklow, Cheshire, England, (He had obtained special leave from the labour camp.)4,3
